CPU temps not detected
#1
I have been using Fan Control V214 on my gaming system for a couple of years.
I like it and find it will manage the cooling even on the hottest days.

Yesterday I started the system it and got a notice from fan control saying CPU sensers not detected.

I ran OpenHardware Monitor and they were missing from there also.

I then ran HWiNFO but they were showing in there.

A youtube search suggested a variety of soluitions.
I tried the ones I thought might help my situation.
I have the latest chipset drivers, but ran the install again.
Checked for malware.
Ran system file checker.
I uninstalled Fan Control and installed the latest version, V240
It finds all the fans and allows me to name them but still won't detects the CPU temps.

I am at the head scratching stage, so any help would be appreciated.

any driver errors in the device manager

the fact that HWiNFO detects them suggests it is not hardware so maybe a system restore back to yesterday or the day before might help.

also check if any windows updates occured that night that might explain it...

The system file checker found some errors and corrected them, so I'm not sure how well a restore would work out, or if it's even turned on.
There has been several windows updates during this time period and who really knows exactly what they contain.
I know Defender doesn't like FanControl, it's tried to block it a couple of times.

I'm currently running without the FanControl and the system is performing ok.
Just using the standard Q-Fan setting in the bios.
CPU temp has never been a problem; it's the GPU temps I like to keep an eye on..
